Today I climbed the bell tower (campanile, in Italian) next to the Duomo (the main cathedral) in Florence. That means climbing 416 narrow, winding steps. fortunately there are two platform levels on the way up so you can rest w bit before carrying on. Your reward is a wonderful view over all of Florence and also a great view of the people who chose to climb up to the dome of the cathedral instead of the campanile.
