Arrival in Portugal...Getting to know Porto

After a very long day (up about 4:20 to catch a bus out to the airport in Iceland), going through Paris where we switched both planes and airports, we finally landed in Porto at 8 pm. A late dinner and then a good nights sleep got us ready for our first day of exploring.

We spent the first couple hours getting operational phones for Portugal--a different SIM card for my unlocked phone and a cheap phone for Phil--and getting tours organized. We then set out for the river and discovered what is meant by "hilly" here. These two pictures give an idea of hilly Porto. The first is a view of the center of Porto from across the Duoro river. We walked down from the crest of the hill in the picture. The second is one of the little streets we walked down to get to the river. Naturally, our hotel is located "up." Easy enough to go down, but a challenge to go back up!
