Last night Shana and I spent the evening in the northwestern corner of New Mexico, Gallup--center of tribal activities for several Indian nations and shopping mecca for native American jewelry. We arrived early enough to indulge in some shopping, both of us getting souvenirs for ourselves. After dinner we enjoyed a performance of native American dancing in the large square in front of the Gallup courthouse. From Memorial Day to Labor Day they put on free performances every night for the public. Last night's performance was by a group of Zuni women, whose specialty is dancing with large pots on their heads.
